Message    Hello all,
I'm quite new here, and happy to find this forum.
I'm looking for the lyrics of Balamo - aka "Song of the Gypsies".
The version I heard was sang By Eleni Vitali. It's beautiful.
I can't read greek, but if someone could send the lyrics as they are in english letter (and/or the translation) It would be very delightful...

Thank you very much!
eyal

Message   Lyrics and music by dionisis tsaknis.

Den eho topo, den eho elpida i have no place, i have no hope.
Den tha me hasei kamia patrida no homeland, country will loose me .
Kai me ta heria mou kai tin kardia mou and with my hands and with my heart.
Ftiahno tsantiria sta oneira mou i build tents in my dreams.

So far so good that it was greek. But the chorus is in some kind of gypsy languange - I'll only put the english characters with no translation.
chorus:
Nais balamos, nais balamos.
Kai to loumno afentiko - boss .
Nayia domles ajei balamo.

Kai ta ganikia mas otan horevoun and our .. ganikia .. when they dance.
Me hastaromata pou se mayevoun with ..hastaromata.. that enchant you .
Kounane somata kai ta pite tous they move their bodies and their ..pite.. .
Mesa se kleinoune stis agkalies tous in their hugs they close you.

Repetition of chorus...

Sorry but i couldn't put greek characters due to your java html. If I can in the future notiy me and I'll be glad to put also the greek characters.

Message   Hi Jako...nice talking to you again! :)

Just wanted to clarify that me and AntonisV are not the same person or affiliated in any way. I'm doing my military service and I'm out for a few days for the Easter. Hope you are doing fine yourself as well! ;)

AntonisV...please offer some more information regarding the recording...is it male voice for instance? The more you give the better...

Message   I can't send them via email, since I don't have your email Jacopo, but there are Internet sources where you can find it. For instance "http://www.kithara.vu/ss.php?id=MTIxNjI0MjQw". That site holds about 8.000 greek songs with tabs (most of 'em) and lyrics and keeps updated almost daily with new stuff. Also, since I'm Greek myself, if you ever need any information regarding the greek music scene, don't hesitate to ask, through here. I'm joining the army in about a month or so (we are obliged to do that around here still) for about a year...but for the meantime I'm totally available. (in case you can't enter the site I mentioned (for a variety of reasons), just mention your email and I'll send the lyrics through that). Take care :)

Message   I would love to translate the lyrics to plain english, but unoftunately they include words from the gypsies' dialect/idiom which I'm not aware of either...but here's a rough attempt of translation for the first verse:

"I don't have a land of my own, I don't have hope
no country is going to lose me,
and with my hands and with my heart
I build (gypsy's) tents in my dreams"
