Message    Hi!
Does anyone know where I could possibly find the lirics of these songs, sung recently by Sissy Atanassova:

- Haidi Rumelay
- Burak Yak ImI (guess that's a Turkish song)
- AMAN KATERINA MU - sung both in Turkish and Greek!

and the translation, maybe...

I'd be grateful for any help!

Thanx,

Jako, Rome

Message   Does anyone know who sings the latest version of Rumelaj? I've been hearing it in radio a couple of years now. It has modern instrumentation, not at all traditional. And i believe they have even changed the title of the song.

Message   Well, in greek characters the song goes like this:

Otan perno gia na se ido,
ah pos me vasanizis,
ehis keftedes sti fotia
ah Katerina mou glikia
ke glikotiganizis.

Aman Katerina mou, kouzoum Katerina mou,
ta paraponakia mou thelo na sta po.
Matia san ta kastana m' evalan se vasana
ki olo apo tin porta sou thelo na perno.

Ehis tsoukali pilino
ke psinis fasolada
ke 'go ap' tin lahtara mou
pezontas tin kithara mou
sou kano patinada.

Aman Katerina mou, kouzoum Katerina mou,
ta paraponakia mou thelo na sta po.
Matia san ta kastana m' evalan se vasana
ki olo apo tin porta sou thelo na perno.

When I pass by to see you,
oh how you torture me,
you 're cooking meatballs
(it' says you 've got meatballs on fire,
meaning you are frying those as he repeats)
oh my sweet Katerina
and you are sweetly frying them.

Aman my Katerina, Kouzoum my Katerina
(that is the 2 turkish words in the lyrics)
I want to tell you about my little complains
Eyes like chestnuts put me in tortures
and I want to pass by your door all the time.

You 've got a pot of clay
and you are cooking beansoup
and I, longing for you
playing my guitar
I sing for you.
(patinada, or kantada is the singing by the
door of your beloved, you are Italian,
I guess you know what I am talking about)

Aman my Katerina, Kouzoum my Katerina
I want to tell you about my little complains
Eyes like chestnuts put me in tortures
and I want to pass by your door all the time.

I guess the lyrics is a little awkward.
Talking about frying meatballs and cooking beansoup.
Yet, it is the peripherals of the main theme: Katerina.
She is living in a house and does the works of it,
so the singer is able to see her only like that, so even those,
the every day labours of housekeeping, becomes sweet
because of 'sweet Katerina'.

So I 've got that Hugaroton cassette of 'Kalyi Jag' - 'Fekete Tuz' for about 14 years, and I 've became to love 'Rumelaj', (the first, short version I heard)
but I don't still know the meaning of the words. I guess that it is not containing the synopsis of the world history, but it would be a joy to me if someone would translate it in english. What about it marien?

:-)

Have a nice time...

Message   I dont know the version you are mentioning.

I know three versions of the rumelaj song. The first one is often sung with folk dance groups, I guess many who sing it out in the open do not understand the meaning of the words. It is a song from rumelia.

Rumelaj

Zetel mini maj, muntra kurva me
Zetel mini maj mata muntra da meri.

Rume rume rumelaj hai di hai di hai di
Rume rume rumelaj hai di hai di hai di

=========

Second is a hungarian version, of which I do not know teh meaning of the words:

Rumeláj
Túl a hegyeken, valahol keleten,
Száll az ének, kék az égbolt,
Ég a tűz és lobog a szerelem,
A mesének vége, jaj, de szép volt.
Egyszer egy nap lehull a tegnap,
Vár a város, vár az élet,
Miért nem indulsz, hogyha hívnak,
Hogyha hallod, hogyha érzed?

Rume, rume rumeláj hájdi, hájdi, hájdi.
Rume, rume rumeláj, hájdi, hájdi.
Rume rume rumeláj sír a z ének,
Romos romantika, te rongyos élet.

Túl a hegyeken, valahol keleten...
Egyszer egy nap lehull a tegnap....

Rume, rume rumeláj, ütött az óra,
Más ez a föld és más ez a nóta,
Rume, rume rumeláj, miért hiányzik,
Roma, roma romalány, hájdi, hájdi.
Rume, rume rumeláj, tiéd a holnap,
Siess, mert elfogy a huszadik század,
Rume, rume rumeláj, régi dallam,
Mindig elôjön valahonnan.

Rume, rume rumeláj hájdi, hájdi, hájdi...

Third is Opa Cupa, a gipsy song. Here some (dirty) words of the first version are absent, or have been changed over time (?):

Me sem gova chavoro,
Khelav mange majlacho,
Oj andale mandale
E chora man astaren.

Kas me astarava,
Me mange asava,
Samo jekh chaj ni mangel,
Voj mande puchel

O opa cupa na ker mange chaje muka,
Ti daj ka merel ako ni keles.
Lumbaj , lumbaj, lumbalaj ajde ajde ajde,
Lumbaj , lumbaj, lumbalaj ajde ajde ajde.

Sa e chaja kelena,
Voj ni mangel te khelel,
Oj andale mandale,
Mudarel man o devel.

Ava Ruza ava khel
Pa i tiro mek avel,
Oj andale mandale
E sviracha ka kelen.

O opa cupa na ker mange chaje muka,
Ti daj ka merel ako ni keles.
Lumbaj , lumbaj, lumbalaj ajde ajde ajde,
Lumbaj , lumbaj, lumbalaj ajde ajde ajde.

Chao maj o hutalo,
I Ruza so ni kelel,
Oj andale mandale,
an bobo ki astarel

Ava Ruza ava khel
Pa i tiro mek avel,
Oj andale mandale
E sviracha ka kelen.

O opa cupa na ker mange chaje muka,
Ti daj ka merel ako ni keles.
Lumbaj , lumbaj, lumbalaj ajde ajde ajde,
Lumbaj , lumbaj, lumbalaj ajde ajde ajde.

best of luck
